How to Start a Blog
Are you a coach, speaker or entrepreneur who helps women?
People keep telling you that you should start a blog …and now you’re ready!
Don’t wait. Today is your day to start a blog!
Put things on hold for the next 20 minutes and follow the three steps below.
One of the things that I wish I did when I got started is…start sooner. I had difficulty focusing in and gathering my creative ideas. I wish I had a coach three years ago.
So…let’s launch your blog together!

How to Start a Blog in Three Steps:
1. Domain Name and Hosting
2. Installing WordPress
3. Designing Your Blog with a Theme
1) Domain Name and Hosting
This part is fun! What do you want your domain name to be?
Mine is cornerstonecreative.net.
Brainstorm as many different ideas as possible.
Once you have thought of some possibilities head to Bluehost. I’ve used Bluehost since I started my freelance business and I recommend and trust them with my clients, so should you.
To see if your domain name is available by entering it in the box that looks like this:
You’ll also need to host your domain name.
They have great prices and they give you your domain name for free if you decide to host with them. Below is a screenshot of what I use for package information settings.
The Domain Whois Privacy shields your personal address and phone number from being displayed to the public. I use this option myself and I recommend it to my clients to protect our privacy.
Go ahead. Be brave!
2) Installing WordPress
Once you’ve completed registration with Bluehost you’ll need to go through the process of installing WordPress. WordPress, in the simplest of terms, is a blogging software plus website software. It’s the content management system I use for my site.
The best part is that it’s easy to use!
Here’s how: Login to Bluehost.
Make sure you’re in the cPanel and go to the Website Builders section of the first page.
Click on WordPress logo.
Click Check Domain.
You’ll want to make note of the Login URL, Username, and Password to avoid lost password annoyance and frustration at yourself later.
I use LastPass, a free password manager. It will save you later from remembering all your usernames and passwords. Trust me.
You’ll get these messages… Congratulations!
You can click new View Credentials!
Click on the Admin Login button or type your Login URL into your web browser.
It will be something like: www.yourdomainname/wp-admin
Or you can type the Login URL in any browser.
For my site, my Login URL is: cornerstonecreative.net/wp-admin
You’ll see a login screen like the one below. Enter your Username and Password you copied down from the previous step.
3) Designing Your Blog
Congrats! You did it! You’re minutes away from starting your site!
Time to install your theme.
Before you jump into it there are a few things you can do to beautify your blog. WordPress has tons of free WordPress Themes to pick from. You can scan through the free options here.
If you’re looking for a premium theme, check out these options:
Thesis was one of the first themes that I used to start my freelance business. It’s simple and clean.
The Genesis Framework
Avada Theme of Themeforest
Avada is the #1 selling theme of all time on Themeforest. I currently use this one for my site.
After your Theme purchase, download the .zip file of the theme on your computer, then go to your WordPress dashboard and click Appearance and Themes.
Click Add New at the top.
Click Add Themes.
Now, click Choose File to upload your Theme from your computer and click Install Now.
Activate your new Theme and you’re ready to view your new blog!
Congratulations for launching your own blog. Proud of you that you’ve come so far and reached the bottom of this page! Kudos!
Time to write your first blog post!
